Poker is a game of strategy; they say chess is the sport of kings, well if that's so then poker is the sport of gods. It is not something you can just walk in and suddenly be a pro at, it takes skill and patience, nothing in life is achieved without first knowing the fundamentals. If you want to play poker and win money like the pro's, or simply to have fun with a few of your friends, there is no way your going to have fun if your constantly losing. Refine your skills and learn the fundamentals, that's the only way to playing an enjoyable game of poker.
Aggressive game play is key to playing an awesome game of poker. Many people like to sit on the cards they have but you will never win a game of poker if you just sit on your cards forever. When you have a good hand it only makes sense to play it or you risk the chance of allowing someone else to get a better hand and ultimately destroy you. No one likes to lose money if you want to win be aggressive use the cards you have to your advantage and win some money. If you follow my advice and add these strategies to your arsenal I assure you, you will have enough money to tip your waitress when the game is done.
Always be patient. That sounds like a contradiction to being aggressive. I know what you are thinking "I just read that I should be aggressive." Yes indeed I said you should play aggressively, but that doesn't mean to play foolishly. You may not always have the best hand in the world, or even if you have an alright hand there is no point in going all out only to win a few bucks. Fold a few times, let others get the small prizes, build up your army, and attack full force. When playing poker the greatest tip to keep in mind is play like a snake in the grass, calmly waiting for your time to strike. If the concept of patience proves to be to difficult then poker is just not the game for you.
Always be aware of your game as well as that of your opponents. The best strategy to win a war is to know your enemy as well as yourself. Know your flaws and weakness knowing how your opponents play is always a valuable skill to have but if your unaware of you play you just might end up losing money. That being said if you spend to much time counting your cards and staking your chips you just might be aware of the game around. A good poker player is aware of his surroundings. If you have come to play a game of poker then you better be prepared to play chess.
Poker is a game of strategy; if you're an intellectual then you will love this game. Keep in mind you don't have to be brilliant to play poker, you just have to love the game and always remember the fundamentals.
